Pop-up birthday card with Newton and birdie

This stamp set from Newton's Nook just begs to be used with a pop-up element inside. The sentiment on the front and the really punny on the inside is just perfect.

I wanted to try my hand at some masking with the balloon image in the stamp set and this is what became of it. I'm quite happy with how it turned out. The balloons and birdie are all colored with Distress Inks on Canson watercolor paper. I finished it by splattering everything with some black acryllic paint (after everything was dry). I however covered the balloons, birdie and the sentiment before splattering.

The inside is created with dies from Lawn Fawn (Stitched clouds, stitched hillside and the pop-ups). The trees are from My Favorite Things. I used Lawn Fawn Rainbow plaid paper as well as the yellow in Watercolor wishes.

Slider card with Lawn Fawn "Plane and simple" set

I absolutely adored the Lawn Fawn "Plane and simple"-set when it came out and have been wanting to try it out. I've seen some great designs on Pinterest that I wanted to try my hands at so I decided to make two cards at once.

First I ink blended two panels with Distress inks. The paper on the left is Ranger watercolor paper and the one on the right is Bristol Smooth. Interesting that there is such a difference in color intensity even though the same inks and the same time blending them on are used. I used Abandoned coral and Scattered straw for the colors. The lovely orange in the middle comes from blending the two colors together. I splattered the background with some water to get the mottled effect.

I then colored in a bunch of the images. (Want to make even more cards with this set). The idea is to use planes that have the same colors as the background.

Here is a dry run on the two cards before stamping sentiments and making the slider.
Laying out all the elements

Here is the finished card with the slider element. I used a sliding disc from My Favorite Things behind the plane. The little clouds behind the plane are attached with a piece of acetate.

Course at Pyssloteket

Our wonderful local store Pyssloteket had a class in coloring which I just felt I had to take. 3 hours of playing with color, yes please.

We played with Canson watercolor and Bristol Smooth paper and used three coloring mediums in different ways; watercolor pencils, Distress Markers and Distress re-inkers. It was really fun trying out these mediums on different paper and with different blending techniques.
We all choose different stamps to try and color. I chose the cute elephant from Lawn Fawn's Elphie Selfie. I didn't really succeeded in coloring any of the images to my liking but it was fun to try.

The class ended with some great shopping. Some more Lawn Fawn goodies ended up in my stash =)

Altenew persian motifs flowers in blue

I got the Altenew Persian motifs stamp set and have been using my Zigs to color it. I stamped the image with Versamark and heat embossed it with white and then went to town in several color schemes. This is the blue one;

I finished it off by adding a strip of gold heat embossed cardstock as well as a strip of blue cardstock and then mounted everything to a white card base. The die is a new one from Gummiapan. It reads "thank you" in Swedish.

Duh-nuh, DUH-nuh, DUH-NUH!!

When I saw Lawn Fawn's You are jawsome shark set, I just had to have it. Not everybody today has seen the movie Jaws but I have and could definitely relate! For this card I really tried to build up the suspense by having the shark fin rise higher and higher for each square.

I blended the background directly on the card base with some distress ink. For the front panel I used a My Favorite Things die. It actually only cuts three sides of the squares so you can open them yourself but for this one, I wanted windows so I simply cut the forth side off with a craft knife. I stamped the "duh-nuh" on the card base with Versacolor black ink using the Misty. I didn't want the sentiment to be crooked but perfectly centered under each square.

When you open the card, you are greated like this:
You are Jawsome!
I used distress ink for the sky and waves using Lawn Fawn dies to create those. The sun is actually from the "Out of this world" stamp set and the clouds comes from the "Plane and simple" stamp set. All the images are colored with Zig clean color real brush markers.

I wanted to participate in Prairie Paper & Ink (AmyR) Happy mail haul and this one suited perfectly for the August theme of "Back to school/Teacher/Appreciation". I got it away on time and it showed up in Canada. You can see the Happy Mail Haul for August here.

Congrats on a new home

I saw this idea as one of the mentions at the Lawnfawnatics blog and thought I had to create something similar for our neighbors who are moving to a new place.

I cut the little town border from white cardstock and also from some patterned paper from Doodlebug and replaced one of the houses with a more colorful front. I cut the grass from some green paper with a simple stitched hillside border. The sky is Lawn Fawn watercolor wishes paper and the cloud comes from their Plane and simple stamp set. I just love the little faces on the clouds, their adorable. Been using them a lot lately. The little butterfly comes from a My Favorite things stamp set (with the cute little elephant). The colorful mats are cut with Hero arts basic rectangles. The sentiment is Lawn Fawn, heat embossed in white.

Best of luck in your new digs!

Light up the holidays - take 2

I made a second version of this shaker card (Light up the holidays - take 1). I colored the exact same way, the differences are;
  • different background
  • kitty and snowy hill are mounted inside the shaker
  • different kind of sequins

Light up the holidays - take 1

I had the idea for this card in my head since I got that Lawn Fawn leafy tree backdrop die quite some time ago. Now it finally came into fruition.

I  colored the kitty with distress inks Scattered straw and Wild honey. The lights are colored with Zig clean color real brush markers. I haven't been able to get them to work very well lately. I have tried several watercolor papers but can't really get the color to move. So, I went back to distress inks which worked as I wanted. The lights in the trees are cut from the kitty image (just remove the kitty) and placed in the tree.

(See the shaker in action on Instagram)

I cut the tree out of plain white cardstock and I used a patterned paper from Panduro as the backdrop. The snow is a Lawn Fawn stitched hillside border. The sentiment is white heat embossed on black cardstock cut with flag ends.

I cut a piece of transparency in A2 size and then mounted the hill, frame, kitty and lights on top of that. Then flipped it around to add doubled up foam tape. I used a power tool on the sides so that the sequins and stars would stick as little as possible to the sides. I placed all the shaker material inside the frame, removed the release paper and placed the background on top.

You are jawsome

Playing with Lawn Fawn miniset You are jawsome. The shark and fish are colored with Zig clean color real brush markers. The background is heat embossed with Nuvo glitter embossing powder and then watercolored with distress inks Chipped sapphire, Blueprint sketch and Salty ocean.

There were more glitter initially on the card before I started to watercolor it so I might have to think of a different way to add that embossing powder. The cool thing is that the powder melts clear and just the glitter shows. So the color is actually the color of cardstock underneath. Something to keep in mind (I noticed it while I tried to heat emboss the same powder on the sentiment and the text wouldn't show up *big smile*)

The panel is die cut with a Lawn Fawn stitched rectangle and then added with foam tape to a cardbase that has a mat of rainbow plaid paper, also that from Lawn Fawn.

30 day coloring challenge - 8th edition

Tomorrow starts the Daily Marker 30 day coloring challenge. I'll be joining and hoping to advance just a teeny tiny bit by seeing all the wonderful work of the other people in the community.

You can share either directly on the blog, the link above or on a private Facebook group or Instagram by using #thedailymarker30day. If you want to involve your kids or grandkids, you can post under #thedailymarker30daykids. I think my 5-year old daughter will be very interested to join me.

The past couple of days she has been enjoying to finally try ink blending with mommy's extensive collection of Distress Inks. One very happy little lady;

Hopefully joining the 30 day coloring challenge
